Deadline nears for business seminar

The Hawaii Small Business Development Center will present “Re-positioning Your Business for Success” on Jan. 8 at its West Hawaii Center located in Kuakini Tower, 75-5722 Kuakini Highway, Suite 213, Kailua-Kona. Registration starts at 2:30 p.m. and the seminar is from 3 to 5 p.m.

Participants will learn how to reposition a business for success after the Great Recession and how to give a business a do-over for 2013.

Fairmont Orchid makes gold list

According to Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold List, an annual reader’s choice poll, The Fairmont Orchid Hawaii epitomizes the gold standard, making the cut for 2013. Rated on criteria including location, activities, service and guestrooms, the list is based on magazine-subscriber votes.

The Fairmont Orchid, a luxury AAA Four Diamond resort, was recognized for its pristine location, outstanding service, unique Hui Holokai Beach Ambassador program and its Hawaii Island cuisine at Brown’s Beach House.

The Fairmont Kea Lani in Wailea, Maui also was honored.

Dean selected BALLE fellow

Andrea Dean, a resident of North Kohala, has been selected as a 2013 Business Alliance for Local Living Economies local economy fellow.

Dean is known for her projects focused on local food and economy such as: Think Local, Buy Local; Hooulu ka Ulu; Hawaii Alliance for a Local Economy; North Kohala Eat Locally Grown Campaign; Growing a Local Food System in North Kohala; Community Harvest Hawaii; and EBT (SNAP) at the Hawi Farmers Market. Dean’s projects have been sponsored by a variety of sources including Hawaii County, Kaiser Permanente, Local Initiatives Fund of RSF Social Finance and the Island Innovation Fund of Hawaii Community Foundation.

Credit union raises funds for health center

Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union’s annual Market Day raised $21,138 this year to benefit the West Hawaii Community Health Center.

The Market Day effort focuses on International Credit Union Day and its message, that credit union members are part of a global effort to take the philosophy of people helping people beyond the walls of each credit union and into local communities. Sales included fresh produce, baked goods and crafts.

Huntz promoted to general manager

RevoluSun has promoted Nicholas Huntz to general manager of its Big Island division.

In his new role, along with running day-to-day operations, Huntz will oversee project management and permitting, conduct relations with Hawaii Electric Light Co. and help lead RevoluSun’s expansion of operations and local sales force on the Big Island.

Huntz has more than 12 years of sales and operations experience, and began his career at RevoluSun in 2009 as a project developer, quickly moving up to project manager and warehouse manager. Prior to RevoluSun, he worked as an account executive at Young Brothers. Huntz holds a degree in Applied Trades from Honolulu Community College. He currently resides in Kailua-Kona.
